Case Study:
As a medical device manufacturer, Acumed provides lifechanging products to patients. They wanted to improve their processes to provide more options and better precision in their products. With Advisicon’s help, they were able to continue to serve their customer base throughout the trials of the COVID pandemic and develop improved orthopaedic solutions.
Business Situation
Acumed wanted to grow and improve their project delivery and optimize their resource to improve workload scheduling and visibility. They started with MS Project (Desktop) and quickly realized that they needed a more streamlined reporting, tracking, and forecasting model. Additionally, they wanted to infuse project management & portfolio management strategic best practices and methodologies.
Solution Delivered
Advisicon helped to map out core business strategic alignment with tactical implementation metrics. We deployed Project Online & trained their project management office (PMO) and staff to use both the technology and the improved methodologies together. This grew their capabilities way beyond desktop management, leading to centralized dashboards, automation, and strategic planning—all leveraging the Microsoft Project technology stack and extended O365 solutions.
Benefits Received
With better strategic planning aligned with visibility into existing customer-in-flight projects through internal improvement initiatives, they could better manage their resource’s skillsets, delivery, and timelines when it came to implementing. When COVID hit, Acumed had already put their system in place with strong Power BI dashboards so they could pivot easily and ensure continued strong customer delivery with instantly remote teams. They managed equipment, materials, and manufacturing workloads while maintaining operational improvement projects.
The Company Today
Acumed is growing like crazy. They recently added Acute Thoracic Products, manufacturers of challenging chest wall solutions, to their portfolio of orthopaedic solutions. Most excitingly, they’ve merged with another global medical implant leader, OsteroMed. According to their CEO Sharon Wolfington, “We will continue to offer a growing product portfolio for both the Acumed and OsteoMed brands, leverage investments in systems and processes, and create business continuity with manufacturing and inventory in multiple locations.”
