South Carolina’s main agency for managing and regulating healthcare takes care of the state’s six million citizens and a plethora of projects that support access to programs, benefits, and solutions for healthcare providers, workers, and recipients. To say their electronic systems need to be top-of-the-line is an understatement.
Business Situation
The Department of Health and Human Services for the State of South Carolina began evolving its project management practices, processes, tools, and capabilities to ensure better, on-time, and transparent delivery of projects for its stakeholders. This started by evolving SharePoint and Project Server on-premise alongside growing their project, program, and portfolio methodologies and standards. SC-DHHS leveraged the Microsoft stack to help create advanced-level demand & capacity tracking & reporting but needed a process and plan to continue moving to Office 365 while keeping their tools and processes current.
Solution Delivered
Advisicon provided SharePoint, Project Server, and SSRS reporting while SC-DHHS stabilized and prepared to move their entire project tracking system to the Cloud. SC-DHHS was one of the very first adopters of Office 365. Advisicon supported, trained, and provided project management Office & Methodology Support. Also, we helped migrate and reconfigure their advanced tracking and reporting tools to the current O365 technologies. This included Project Online Planner, MS Teams, and a power trio: Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
Benefits Received
After multiple generations of both technology and methodology iteration, SC-DHHS now has been able to add Agile processes to their templates, dashboards, and demand & capacity planning. Importantly, their strategic planning program management is also equipped with Agile processes! This combination allows the flexibility of larger waterfall project and program management along with integrated development and technology programs featuring multiple iterations. The state legislature and Governor have been given significant visibility into the agency’s workload and project progress.
The Agency Today
The SC-DHHS continues to leverage the Microsoft stack not only for its tracking and reporting but also for helping to expand the toolsets to project and non-project managers alike—providing the culture of project delivery, while also automating more and more of the manual systems and processes surrounding project delivery.
